Tender floated for RO 68 million additional works of Al Sharqiyah Expressway Project

Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Tender Board, assigned the implementation of the completion work of the Al Sharqiya Expressway Project, (Part Two, Second phase) from Al Kamil W’al Wafi to Sur in the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate for RO 68.6 million.

The road connects the states of the Governorates of North Al Sharqiyah and South Al Sharqiyah, and the scope of the remaining works of the project includes several stages, including raising the efficiency of the current road and converting it into a dual carriageway consisting of three lanes, starting from the Wilayat of Al Kamil all the way to the Wilayat of Sur, with a length of about 52 kilometers, and raising the efficiency of the road from a roundabout. Bilad Sur to Sur Plaza intersection and converted to a two-lane dual carriageway with a length of about 3 kilometers.

The project also includes the construction of an overhead intersection near Sur Hospital, the construction of four bridges crossing valleys and four arched overhead bridges, in addition to the construction of five vehicular tunnels and five pedestrian crossing tunnels. Lighting work will also be completed and traffic lights will be installed in the state of Sur.

The project is expected to take approximately 25 months to implement; This project is intended to be a vital tributary that contributes to facilitating traffic and improving road communications between different regions in the two governorates, which enhances economic and social development in the region.
