Third edition of Frankincense season begins tomorrow in Dhofar

Muscat: The third edition of the Frankincense Season in Dhofar Governorate will kick off tomorrow at Al Baleed Archaeological Park in Salalah. The event is organised by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism at the sites of the Land of Frankincense: Al Baleed Archaeological Park and Wadi Dokah Reserve, and will continue until December 6.

Khalid bin Abdullah Al-Abri, Director General of the Directorate General of Heritage and Tourism in Dhofar Governorate, said: The event comes as part of the Ministry’s efforts to focus on the historical role of the frankincense tree throughout ancient civilizations. The Frankincense Season program will witness a live demonstration of how frankincense products and extracts are manufactured, scientific and cultural activities dedicated to children under the title “The Little Trader”, in addition to an exhibition of perfumes and frankincense products for companies that use frankincense in their products and are located in the Sultanate of Oman.

He explained that there will be a live show that embodies the market of civilizations known throughout history that had historical relations with the Sultanate of Oman through the export of frankincense to it, in addition to many accompanying events, including a restaurant corner, a pleasure boat experience in Khor Al Baleed, and a children’s theater. This season will also witness the planting of 100 frankincense trees in the Wadi Dokah Reserve, and on December 2nd, there will be a celebration of the inclusion of the Frankincense Land sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

It is worth noting that the frankincense season activities aim to highlight the historical and touristic elements that abound in the frankincense land sites in Dhofar Governorate, in addition to enhancing the tourist flow to the governorate and working to sustain it throughout the year, as well as providing opportunities for those interested, innovators and researchers in the field of frankincense and its derivatives to showcase their work.
