Annual Camel Festival in Thumrait Launches Beauty Contests
Thumrait: The beauty contest competitions kicked off today in the Wilayat of Thumrait, Dhofar Governorate, as part of the annual camel festival for milking, beauty competitions and competitive racing for 2025.
Organized by the Office of the Wali of Thumrait, the festival is being held in its twenty-sixth edition and will continue over several days, with broad participation from camel owners and breeders from various wilayats of the Sultanate of Oman.
The beauty contest, which runs for three days, features several categories. These include six rounds for the Omani camel beauty contest, six rounds for the Majahim camel beauty contest, and six rounds for the local camel beauty contest. In addition, two rounds are allocated for the Omani camel category and two rounds for the Majahim camel category. Prizes will be awarded to the owners of camels that secure positions from first to tenth place in each round.
Meanwhile, the milking competition concluded yesterday after the organizing committee completed the calculation of milk yields for participating camels, measured from Sunday morning until Tuesday evening. The competition comprised three rounds for the Omani camel category, three rounds for the Majahim category, and three rounds for the Dharaib category. It also included three challenge rounds encompassing all categories, in addition to a general sorting round. Prizes will be presented to the winners from first to tenth place in each round.
The festival will conclude next Saturday with the competitive racing challenge rounds at the Thumrait Camel Racing Track. The final events include two rounds for the weanling category, two rounds for the young male category, as well as the long parade (human rider) for the female camel category.
