    Main Moon Sighting Committee Announces Astronomical Impossibility of Observing Ramadan Crescent

    Muscat: The Main Committee for Moon Sighting has announced the astronomical impossibility of sighting the crescent moon marking the beginning of the Holy Month of Ramadan 1447 AH on Tuesday, 29 Sha’ban 1447 AH, corresponding to February 17, 2026.

    The Committee stated that, according to confirmed astronomical calculations, the moon will set before or at sunset on that day in all regions of the Sultanate of Oman, rendering the sighting of the crescent moon impossible.

    In line with the established principle of not accepting testimonies that contradict observable reality and verified scientific certainty in cases where astronomical data confirm the impossibility of sighting, the Committee declared that Wednesday, February 18, 2026, will complete the month of Sha’ban 1447 AH, and Thursday, February 19, 2026, will be the first day of Ramadan 1447 AH, by the will of Allah Almighty.
