To reduce aircraft noise on residents nearby muscat airport: CAA issues statement

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) continues to work measures aimed at reducing the effects of noise from aircraft on residents of areas near Muscat International Airport.

According to CAA, the operational procedures to be taken for the densely populated areas near Muscat International airport will meet safety requirements of the air traffic, which the authority has adopted since the opening of new Muscat International Airport in 2018.

These procedures are stated in order to ensure that the Civil aviation sector in Oman is up to date with the latest technologies and developments that ensure a safe, efficient and effective aviation environment.

The following steps are

Airplane landing direction will be changed from southern Al Mawaleh to the sea adjoining Athaiba area during ( 9:00 pm to 5:00 am).

However, during fierce weather condition that necessitate flight safety, landing will take the old runway towards souther Al Mawaleh.

The noise reduction procedures also involve the revamp of the southern runway of Muscat International Airport, which will contribute to shifting the air traffic to other tracks that help alleviate the aircraft noise. Meanwhile, super carriage aircraft are only allowed to land at Muscat International Airpot if the national interest requires.

Nonetheless, all airplanes are mandated to follow the low noise procedures issued by the authority 11, 2018, which are as the following.

All airplanes have to follow take-off and landing procedures at Muscat International Airport aimed at achieving minimum noise over sensitive and populated areas.

Pilots are not allowed to use the thrust reverse technique while landing, which will considerably help minimize noise created by the airplanes.

Other procedures also include the allocation of a specific site to operate the engines testing within a period not exceeding 5 minutes or with higher power than those used in normal operating and moving conditions at the Muscat International Airport.
