Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman will witness a lunar eclipse on Tuesday, November 8, 2022.
“On Tuesday, November 8, 2022, the Sultanate of Oman will witness a semi-shadow eclipse that begins in Muscat at 5:26 pm and ends at 5:56 pm. It appears in a faint shadow that may not be clearly seen,” the Astronomical Affairs Department at the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs (MERA) said.
The Department added that the residents of Asia, Australia, North America, most of South America, and parts of northern and eastern Europe will be able to see the lunar eclipse. Lunar eclipses occur when the moon , Earth and sun are aligned and the moon passes into Earth’s shadow.
Total lunar eclipses are sometimes known as blood moons because of the dramatic colouring caused by Earth’s atmosphere, which scatters light from the sun and brandishes it on the face of the moon.
Skywatchers worldwide do not require any specialist equipment to see the lunar eclipse, unlike solar eclipses. The first lunar eclipse of the year occurred on May 16 and the second will occur on November 8.
