Two students create a bio-based product from expired milk that enhances sustainable agriculture and crop quality

Bahla: Two students from Aisha Bint Talha School in the Wilayat of Bahla in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate were able to invent a product extracted from expired milk, and works as biochar used as a natural fertilizer for plants. This product is considered a step towards promoting sustainable agriculture and reducing the use of chemical fertilizers.

The two students, Roaa bint Rashid Al-Hinai and Fajr bint Abdullah Al-Hanai, came up with this innovation after a research project that lasted several months, where the process began by collecting expired milk, then treating it and turning it into biochar that works as a natural fertilizer for plants.

Fajr bint Abdullah Al-Hinai said that the product is an innovative solution to the problem of wasting food products, as expired milk is exploited to produce biochar with high agricultural value, and this charcoal can be used as natural fertilizers in agriculture, which contributes to increasing crop production and improving their quality.

She added that the biochar product extracted from expired milk is an essential element of energy, as well as an indispensable part of the diet. The innovation has proven effective in plant growth and increasing the percentage of chlorophyll in it, in addition to increasing the number of leaves and the amount of the crop.

It should be noted that this biochar extracted from expired milk contains organic materials that contribute to improving the soil structure, stimulates root growth, and enhances the absorption of essential nutrients for plants. In addition, it reduces the use of chemical fertilizers that may be harmful to the environment and negatively affect public health.
