New York: The United Nations General Assembly called, at the conclusion of the general debate of the 79th session, for the need to work to prevent a comprehensive war in the Middle East.

The general debate of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly concluded, where the audience heard from representatives of 190 countries, including 71 heads of state and 42 heads of government, in addition to 6 vice presidents and crown princes, 8 deputy prime ministers, 53 ministers, 3 deputy ministers, 7 heads of delegations, and 3 observers.

General Assembly President Philemon Yang referred to the escalating crises in various parts of the world, including Gaza, Lebanon and Sudan, and said that peace in the Middle East was at stake, calling on the world not to allow a comprehensive war to occur in this volatile region. He called on all parties to urgently reach a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, and to release all hostages still in custody immediately.

He also called on those with influence over the parties to demand an immediate ceasefire and dialogue, and called on all countries supplying the region with weapons to refrain from such actions and to give priority to negotiations and diplomatic solutions. He reiterated what he had said at the opening of the general debate that the two-state solution, based on the relevant United Nations resolutions, alone would guarantee lasting peace and security for both the Israeli occupation army, the Palestinian people and the rest of the region.
