University of Nizwa opens the Fourth edition of Entrepreneurship Week

Nizwa: The University of Nizwa opened the fourth edition of the Entrepreneurship Week, and the third edition of the national report of the Global Entrepreneurship Observatory for the academic year 2021-2022.

The ceremony, which was held on the sidelines of the activities of the eighteenth cultural season, entitled “Creativity and Innovation”, witnessed the inauguration of the Entrepreneurs’ Exhibition with the participation of a group of student projects, entrepreneurs’ projects of owners of small and medium enterprises, and government and private institutions.

This year, the exhibition has the participation of 52 companies from student companies, entrepreneurs, and government and private institutions, which recorded a distinguished presence and participation in this year’s exhibition, through the quality, nature, and number of participants, and the ideas included in the exhibition for projects that embodied the interest and care of young people in self-employment, and also highlighted the efforts of institutions Government concerned with advancing youth projects, sponsoring and supporting them.

Dr. Abdullah bin Muhammad Al Shukaili, Executive Director of the Entrepreneurship Center at the University, said in his speech: “The University of Nizwa, as a model for pioneering universities in the Sultanate of Oman, seeks through the Entrepreneurship Center to support the entrepreneurship sector in the Sultanate of Oman and to develop entrepreneurial thought inside and outside the university environment through four Basic axes represented in education, scientific research, capacity building, and local and international cooperation.

Al-Shukaili added that during the past academic year, more than 1,000 students were supported and guided towards the future of entrepreneurial or independent work, by providing them with guidance and advice in building their own business plans.

The Entrepreneurship Observatory aims to measure some indicators of the entrepreneurship environment and activity in the Sultanate according to an internationally approved scientific methodology. It is a platform that brings together researchers and academics with decision makers to discuss ways to develop small and medium enterprises from a scientific perspective. During the past four years, the research team has been able to annually issue the national report of the Entrepreneurship Observatory for the Sultanate of Oman, in addition to creating a database through which decision-makers and researchers can benefit from.

The ceremony included the inauguration of the new version of the annual report of the Entrepreneurship Observatory, which was worked on by a specialized technical team from the University of Nizwa in partnership and cooperation with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority. The report contains many details related to the movement and development of entrepreneurship and the results it achieved during the academic year 2021-2022.

The opening ceremony was sponsored by Prof. Ahmed bin Khalfan Al Rawahi, President of the University of Nizwa, in the presence of a number of officials representing government departments and private sector companies.
