Muscat: The Oman Water and Wastewater Services Company (OWWSC) issued a clarification saying that it is working to review the regulation for the delivery of potable water service, and it is expected to be implemented during the last quarter of 2022, and this is the text of the clarification:
The Omani Water and Wastewater Services Company has followed up on what was circulated in some social media about water service connection fees, and the company would like to confirm:
1- These fees have been introduced since 2019 based on many requests from a large segment of citizens with the aim of accelerating the delivery of drinking water service to the networks instead of supplying schemes that are not covered by the networks through water tanks.
2- The Public Water Authority (formerly) has studied the claims to speed up the pace of network implementation according to the desire of the subscribers, as the average cost of implementing the distribution networks was calculated only without taking into account the costs associated with the transmission networks, collection tanks and other other costs.
3- Some categories have been excluded, including the social security category, which were exempt from application of fees, in addition to the fee installments for all categories over a period of seventy months at the rate of ten riyals per month.
“It is noteworthy that the Oman Water and Wastewater Services Company is reviewing the regulation for the delivery of potable water service in light of the integration of the water and sanitation sectors to ensure that all observations received during the past period are taken into account and what serves the interest and satisfaction of the subscribers, provided that the new regulation is implemented during the last quarter From this year and after obtaining approvals from the concerned authorities,” the company said.
