Adam: The Department of Agricultural Wealth and Water Resources in the Wilayat of Adam in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate has started harvesting the wheat crop in the various regions and villages in the state.
Suleiman bin Salem Al-Asimi, director of the Department of Agricultural Wealth and Water Resources in the state of Adam, said: Cultivation of the wheat crop begins in the state in the month of November until March of each year, and wheat is harvested in a number of villages in the state using modern machines of all kinds instead of the traditional method, and farmers care about it from the beginning of the season until Harvest it to ensure a good product.
He added that the cultivation of the wheat crop is one of the important crops that can be cultivated in the state due to the abundance of water and the validity of the soil and the interest of farmers in this crop. The cultivated land area and productivity may vary due to the climatic conditions in each region. Before the start of the wheat cultivation season, the technicians in the department make field visits to all villages and regions The mandate is to inspect the farms and provide advice and guidance to the farmers, then we start distributing the available grain varieties to farmers wishing to grow the wheat crop.
The Director of the Department of Agricultural Wealth and Water Resources in the state of Adam confirmed that the department distributed this year 525 kg of wheat varieties, as the cultivated area reached 40 acres, and the number of beneficiaries reached 15 farmers, and there are other farmers who provided seeds at their own expense.
Al-Bashaer farm acquired the largest cultivated area, amounting to 29 acres, and the amount of production in it was about 33 tons.
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources pays remarkable attention to the wheat crop, which is of interest to many farmers in the various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman as it is an important food crop that enters the food security basket along with the cultivation of other agricultural crops and fruit trees.
The Ministry urges farmers to invest the support provided to them in this aspect in terms of providing good, high-yield varieties recommended by agricultural research stations, as well as harvesting equipment and other services specific to farmers to achieve an economic return for them, increase the local product of wheat and reduce dependence on the importer, where productivity is estimated An acre of wheat crop ranges between 800-1000/kg, according to the quality of each variety.
