WHO Delegation Conducts Field Evaluation of Barka Healthy City Programme

Barka:  A delegation from the World Health Organization (WHO) paid a visit today to the Wilayat of Barka in the South Al Batinah Governorate as part of the field evaluation program for the Barka Healthy City.

This comes within the framework of national efforts aimed at obtaining international accreditation for healthy cities and promoting the concepts of public health, sustainable development, and quality of life.

The visit’s program included a meeting at the office of the Wali of Barka, in the presence of Eng. Masoud Said Al Hashmi, Governor of South Al Batinah, and Sayyid Tarik bin Mahmoud Al Busaidi, Wali of Barka, alongside members of the executive office of the Barka Healthy City and a number of officials and relevant authorities.

The meeting witnessed a review of the efforts exerted in implementing the healthy city initiatives and community partnerships that have contributed to achieving various health and developmental indicators.

In addition, it discussed the programs and projects implemented in accordance with the healthy city standards approved by the World Health Organization.

Furthermore, the delegation visited the executive office of the Barka Healthy City, where they reviewed the accreditation files and supporting documents that chronicle the achievements and implemented projects. They also listened to a visual presentation covering health and community initiatives and programs, as well as the roles of committees and partner entities in achieving the goals of the healthy city.

Additionally, they visited the Barka Health Complex, during which the delegation learned about the health services provided to the local community, the efforts made in enhancing primary healthcare alongside preventive and awareness programs, and their role in supporting the health indicators of the population.

The delegation also reviewed the programs of the Omani Women’s Association in the Wilayat of Barka and its initiatives directed towards women and the family. This was alongside a visit to the Barka waterfront, which is considered one of the facilities supporting health, physical, and recreational activities and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.

The field visits also included neighborhood to learn about the community and the Al Khuwairat developmental initiatives implemented there, and the Al Shabab Sports Club to view the sports and youth programs and their role in enhancing community health.

Moreover, they visited the Barka Volunteer Team to get acquainted with its initiatives and participations supporting health and developmental work, in addition to the health walkway in the Wilayat to see the efforts made in providing supportive environments for engaging in physical activity.
