Winners of Huawei ICT Competition 2023 honoured

Muscat: The Ministry of Labor, nine students from the Sultanate of Oman were honored among more than 1000 participants in the Huawei Information and Communications Technology Competition for the Middle East and Central Asia 2023-2024 who qualified at the local level within the axes of communications networks, the electronic cloud and cloud computing.

The honoring ceremony was sponsored by His Excellency Mr. Salem bin Muslim Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labor for Human Resources Development. A number of professors at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences and the National University of Science and Technology were also honored for their efforts to help nurture and develop the skills of young students in the field of information and communications technology, and for their contributions to developing the national competitive capabilities of countries in the region by developing the skills of future ICT leaders.

This honor comes to enhance the competitive capabilities among students and push them to advanced ranks and to bridge the digital skills gap in the region, by providing students with technical and practical skills in the latest technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence, and the cloud.

The competition provides students with the opportunity to learn directly. About the latest developments in information and communications technology and international trends in this field, with practical training to develop skills in the company’s laboratories, research centers and modern development facilities, which helps prepare students for their future careers and enhances their opportunities for future work in the information and communications technology sector.

It is noteworthy that the seventh edition of Huawei’s initiative to develop talents in the field of information and communications technology witnessed the highest level of participation since the launch of the competition in 2017, as the competition attracted more than 27,500 students from more than 600 universities in 21 countries in the Middle East and Central Asia this year. 22 teams from 11 Middle Eastern and Central Asian countries qualified for the regional finals, including 66 students and 20 teachers.
