Winners of the 12th Sultan Qaboos Sailing Award honoured in Spain

A Coruña: The Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) today held a ceremony in the city of A Coruña, Spain, to honour winners of the 12th edition of the “Sultan Qaboos Award for Sailing”.

British ship “Excelsior” won the Sultan Qaboos Award for Sailing 2024 in appreciation for its pioneering role in establishing international principles of friendship and conducting a programme for exchanging expertise in the field of sail training that benefited young people aged 15 to 26 years. Excelsior’s drive provided a unique model that combines theoretical education and field application, thus offering trainees many opportunities to gain necessary skills and enhance their leadership capabilities.

The ceremony was attended by Omar bin Said Al Kathiri, Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations in New York, Commodore Ali bin Mohammed Al Hosni, Commander of the Said bin Sultan Naval Base, RNO officers, the Head of Sail Training International (STI) association, and persons and parties interested in the field of sailing.

The Sultan Qaboos Award for Sailing is an outstanding international award that promotes the message of peace and coexistence. The award celebrates Oman’s ancient maritime heritage and highlights sailors’ role in consolidating cultural relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the countries of the world.
