Winners of the Falling Walls Lab Oman 2023 Competition Announced

Muscat: The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, in collaboration with the Falling Walls Foundation in Germany announced the winners of the Falling Walls Lab Oman 2023 competition at Innovation Park Muscat today.

The 21 finalists of the Falling Walls Lab Oman competition, who have been selected out of the 95 projects that applied to the competition this year, presented their research projects and business models, covering different disciplines, in a duration of three minutes each in front of a high-level competition jury for the final evaluation round.

Out of the 21 projects, the best three projects were announced as winners. The winning projects went to ‘Breaking the Wall of Methane Biosynthesis’ by Shabib Al Rashdi (National University of Science and Technology), ‘Breaking the Wall of Lost Heat in Solar Cells’ by Anfal Al Busaidi (Sultan Qaboos University), and ‘Breaking the Wall of Aging Minds: AI-Enhanced Diagnostics’ by Abdullah Al Ghailani (Oman Medical Specialty Board).

The winners will participate in the global Falling Walls Lab Finale as a representative of the Sultanate of Oman on 7 November 2023 and attend the Falling Walls Science Summit on 7-9 November 2023 in Berlin, Germany. The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation has participated annually in the Falling Walls Lab competition since 2016.

The Falling Walls Lab competition aims at boosting innovative ideas and business models among researchers and entrepreneurs across different fields.

The competition also provides a platform for up-and-coming researchers to meet up with some of the best accomplished scholars, thus, offering a wonderful opportunity for emerging researchers and entrepreneurs from varying disciplines to expand their horizon and spike their interest in the research field even further through the Falling Walls Lab competition. – ONA
