Work underway to restore basic services affected by Cyclone ‘Tej’ in Dhofar

Salalah: The basic services sector is currently working on restoring some services in some of the Wilayat in the Governorate of Dhofar which were affected by the tropical condition “Tej”.

Eng. Abdullah Mubarek Al Hashimi, coordinator of the Basic Services Sector, told the Oman News Agency that the field response teams in the sector worked to restore several affected services in Dhofar Governorate, such as reopening the Hadbeen-Hasik Road in the Wilayat of Sadah after removing debris.

He stated that the Dhalkoot desalination plant stopped working due to heavy rains, and work is currently underway to restart it, and the Barkhiut desalination plant has also been restarted.

He pointed out that electricity was restored to most areas in Dhofar Governorate, and work is still underway to restore electricity in some other areas of Ardit, Sharshiti, and Shaath in the wilayat of Rakhyut, and the Khadrfi area in the wilayat of Dhalkut, where the power was partially cut off, and work is underway to restore service there, taking into account security and safety measures.

He stated that the communications network in the states of Dhofar Governorate is operating normally, and 11 communications stations are currently being dealt with in the states of Thumrait, Dhalkot, Rakhyut, the state of Shalim, and the Halaniyat Islands, which were affected by the tropical condition “Tej.”

He stated that with regard to the fuel aspect, the necessary examination was carried out to ensure the safety of using fuel filling stations, and they are operating normally, with some stations stopping as a result of a power outage. As for the waste aspect, the concerned company works continuously, and stops in the event of heavy rain in order to ensure the safety of the field teams.
