13 Dead as 63 people hospitalized in Kuwait with alcohol poisoning

Kuwait hospitals have dealt with 63 cases of alcohol poisoning since Saturday which resulted from consumption of drinks contaminated with methanol, the Ministry of Health said in a statement on Wednesday.

Thirteen people have died since the cases were admitted to hospital, the ministry said, noting that all victims had Asian nationalities. Several cases were admitted to the intensive care unit while medical personnel performed CPR on 31 cases, the ministry noted.

The ministry said that 51 people underwent urgent dialysis while 21 suffered from permanent or temporary vision loss. Coordination is ongoing between local hospitals and security authorities on the matter, it added.
