Oman, Kazakhstan Sign 5 Agreements and 10 MoUs to Strengthen Cooperation

Oman and Kazakhstan Sign Agreements, MoUs in Investment, Energy and Technology

Astana (ONA): His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of the Republic of Kazakhstan graced at the Palace of Independence in the capital Astana today a ceremony for the exchange of several documents.

The two countries signed five agreements and ten memoranda of understanding, in addition to a term sheet, a memorandum of cooperation, an executive agreement, and two cooperation agreements.

The agreements encompassed accession to membership of the Eurasian Development Bank, the establishment of a presence for the Eurasian Development Bank in the Sultanate of Oman, the reciprocal encouragement and protection of investment, air transport and the establishment of the Oman-Kazakhstan Business Council.

The memoranda of understanding covered cooperation in the field of diplomatic studies and academic training, training and financial, cultural and youth cooperation.

They also covered cooperation related to the investigation of incidents and occurrences, the enhancement of connectivity between international corridors and communications and information technology, as well as cooperation in the health, agriculture, livestock and fisheries domains.

The memoranda of understanding also included those between the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) and the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan (Atameken) and between the Royal Academy of Management (RAM) and the Kazakh Public Service Centre.

The signing ceremony included an executive agreement for the joint investment fund, providing for the establishment of a joint investment fund.

They also included two cooperation agreements on investment opportunities in oil and gas exploration and production between OQ and the national company KazMunayGas, and a strategic cooperation agreement for the development of renewable energy in the Republic of Kazakhstan and international markets between “O-Green” and “Samruk Energy.”

Further agreements included a memorandum of cooperation on the establishment of the Oman-Kazakhstan Center for Artificial Intelligence in Mineral Exploration and term sheet for the Rixos Hotel project in the Blue City in the Sultanate of Oman.

Signing on behalf of the Omani side were Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister; Sultan bin Salim Al Habsi, Minister of Finance; Abdulsalam bin Mohammed Al Murshidi, President of Oman Investment Authority; Anwar bin Hilal Al Jabri, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion; Sheikh Dr. Salah bin Salim Jaaboub, the Sultanate of Oman’s Ambassador to the Republic of Kazakhstan; Faisal bin Abdullah Al Rowas, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Ashraf bin Hamad Al Maamari, Chairman of the Board of Directors of OQ Exploration and Production (OQEP); Mustafa bin Mohammed Al Hinai, Chief Executive Officer of O-Green and Mattar bin Salim Al Badi, Chief Executive Officer of Minerals Development Oman. On the Kazakh side, the signatories were Mukhtar Tileuberdi, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Nurlan Sauranbayev, Minister of Transport; Nurlan Zhakupov, Chief Executive Officer of Samruk-Kazyna and a number of ministers and chief executives.
