Expat fined OMR 1000 for selling tobacco in shop in Oman

 The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) in Rustaq was recently able to arrest an expatriate worker who sells chewed (non-smoked) tobacco, as part of the efforts made by the authority to combat behaviors that have a negative impact on the health and safety of society and to control the abuses of perpetrators and hold them accountable in accordance with the Consumer Protection Law.

The details are summed up in the fact that, during their field visits to shops and markets in the state, the judicial control officers arrested a migrant worker who traded and sold chewed tobacco in his commercial shop. He was seized with (52) of a better type and (6) grains of prohibited Royal cigars, and 10 ) Chenna-type boxes, which is in violation of the Consumer Protection Law in accordance with Resolution No. (256/2015) amended by Resolution No. (301/2016) regarding the prohibition of the circulation of chewing (non-smoking) tobacco in any form and under any name, and accordingly measures were taken Legal action against him, where an administrative fine of (1,000) Omani riyals was imposed.

The authority assures that it will spare no effort in following up and monitoring the markets and controlling everything that may harm the health and safety of consumers. It will also take all legal measures against violators. It also calls on consumers to report any abuses they may notice through the authority’s various communication channels.
