Washington: Apple and Google have entered into a non-exclusive, multi-year partnership under which Apple will integrate Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence models into Apple devices.
Under the agreement, the next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be built using Google’s Gemini models and cloud infrastructure. These models will support upcoming Apple Intelligence features, including a more personalized version of Siri, expected to be introduced later this year. Bloomberg reported that Apple plans to pay approximately $1 billion annually to use the technology.
Apple stated that following extensive assessment, it concluded that Google’s AI technology offers the most capable base for its Foundation Models. The company said the partnership will support the delivery of new user experiences while maintaining its established standards for privacy and data protection.
Apple confirmed that Apple Intelligence will continue to operate primarily on Apple devices and through Private Cloud Compute, ensuring that user data remains protected in line with the company’s privacy policies.
The company announced that Siri’s upcoming enhancements will include improved understanding of personal user context, awareness of on-screen content, the ability to handle complex multi-step tasks, and more precise responses to user queries.
The agreement positions Gemini as a central element of Apple’s AI development strategy and reflects a move toward broader external collaboration, following earlier cooperation with OpenAI.
