Washington:  Bitcoin climbed above $65,000 today as easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and declining oil prices improved investor sentiment ahead of the US Federal Reserve’s policy meeting.

The world’s largest cryptocurrency rose 1.5 percent to $65,405.40, recovering part of last week’s losses as risk appetite returned to global financial markets.

Ethereum, the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, gained 4.1 percent to $1,959.92, while XRP advanced 1 percent to $1.109. Solana rose 2 percent, whereas Dogecoin declined 0.8 percent.

The gains followed a reduction in geopolitical concerns that had weighed on markets in recent weeks. Lower oil prices also strengthened expectations of easing global inflationary pressures, while a weaker US dollar supported demand for dollar-denominated assets, including cryptocurrencies.

Investors are closely watching the US Federal Reserve’s policy meeting this week, with markets widely expecting interest rates to remain unchanged while seeking guidance on the future direction of monetary policy.

Cryptocurrency markets remain highly sensitive to interest rate expectations, as higher borrowing costs typically weigh on risk assets, while expectations of future rate cuts tend to support investor demand.

Market participants are also monitoring quarterly earnings reports from major US technology companies, including Microsoft, Meta, Apple and Amazon, for their potential impact on broader market sentiment and risk assets.
