US Dollar Hits Seven-Week High as Markets Await UK and Japan Rate Decisions

Singapore: The US dollar held near a seven-week high today after the Federal Reserve raised interest rates and signalled the possibility of further increases, while investors turned their attention to monetary policy decisions from the Bank of England (BoE) and the Bank of Japan (BoJ).

The dollar index, which measures the US currency against a basket of major currencies, stood at 100.33, its highest level since July 31.

The dollar’s strength pushed the euro to $1.1456, near a seven-week low, while the British pound was little changed at $1.3377 ahead of the Bank of England’s meeting later today.

The Japanese yen traded at around 156.20 per dollar, remaining close to a two-week low as markets awaited the Bank of Japan’s policy decision on Friday.

The Australian dollar stood at $0.7096, while the New Zealand dollar was broadly steady at $0.5713.
