Francesco Rivella, the chemist behind the creation of Nutella, has passed away at the age of 97. He died on Friday, just days before the tenth anniversary of Ferrero founder Michele Ferrero’s death.
Known in Italy as the “father of Nutella,” Rivella played a key role in developing the world’s most famous hazelnut spread. Born in Barbaresco, Italy, he joined Ferrero in 1952, before it became a global brand. At 25, with a degree in bromatological chemistry from Turin, he worked in Ferrero’s “chemistry room,” where he helped craft innovative products by refining flavors and studying raw materials.
