Kuwait Grants Students, Staff Time Off During Last Week of Ramadan

Kuwait’s Ministry of Education said on Monday it will grant the last week of Ramadan as a holiday for students, teachers and administrative staff without reducing the number of school days, under a new five-year academic calendar approved by Education Minister Jalal Al-Tabtabai.

The ministry said the calendar will save 51 million dinars ($166 million) by addressing previously wasted school days. It also aims to curb the widespread absenteeism that often occurred between official holidays.

The new framework sets precise dates for the start and end of the school year, exam periods, official holidays and regular breaks.
