Muscat: The market capitalization of the Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX) rose to OMR 38.9 billion at the close of trading last week, registering weekly gains of about OMR 600 million, supported by higher share prices, increased investor optimism and stronger trading activity.
During the week, the MSX listed the 84th issue of Government Development Bonds on the Bonds and Sukuk Market, with a total value of OMR 100 million. The issue comprises one million bonds, each with a nominal value of OMR 100 and an annual interest rate of 4.5%.
The market value of the Bonds and Sukuk Market rose by OMR 101.1 million during the week to OMR 5.528 billion.
The market capitalization of public shareholding companies increased by OMR 242.6 million to OMR 22.098 billion, while the closed companies market gained OMR 250 million to reach OMR 11.285 billion.
These gains coincided with increases in the MSX main index and sectoral indices. Trading value surged by more than 116%, while the number of executed transactions increased by 42%.
The MSX main index gained 95 points during the week to close at 7,628 points.
The Industrial Sector Index recorded the strongest gain, rising 331 points to close at around 9,816 points, supported by gains in several industrial companies, notably Salalah Mills, Voltamp Energy, OQ Basic Industries, Al Anwar Ceramic Tiles, Oman Chlorine and Galfar Engineering and Contracting.
The Financial Sector Index advanced 51 points, while the Services Sector Index gained 45 points. The Sharia Index rose 11 points to close at 617 points.
Trading value increased to OMR 244.7 million, compared with OMR 113.2 million in the previous week. The number of executed transactions also rose from around 31,000 to more than 44,000.
OQ Basic Industries accounted for the largest share of trading value, with trades worth OMR 70.8 million, representing around 29% of the total. Bank Sohar International followed with OMR 58.6 million, OQ Gas Networks with OMR 27.6 million, Omantel with OMR 21.6 million and OQ Exploration and Production with OMR 21.4 million, equivalent to 8.7% of the total trading value.
The week saw gains in 60 securities, while 19 declined and 21 remained unchanged.
Salalah Mills recorded the highest gain, rising around 13% to close at 600 baisas. Al Madina Investment Holding advanced 12.3% to 73 baisas, while Ahli Bank’s Free Bonds 2026 rose 12% to close at 112 baisas.
Oman Education and Training Investments gained 11.1% to close at OMR 2, while Oman Qatar Insurance rose 10% to 187 baisas.
National Aluminium Products led the decliners, falling 29.5% to close at 105 baisas. Aman Real Estate Investment Fund units declined 8% to 69 baisas, while Ahli Bank shares fell 6.5% to 201 baisas.
Sharqiyah Desalination shares declined 6.4% to 160 baisas, while Fincorp Financial Centre shares fell 3.8% to close at 100 baisas.
