Oman Paralympic Badminton Team Makes International Debut in Beijing
Muscat: Oman’s national Paralympic badminton team will participate in the China International Paralympic Badminton Championship in Beijing from August 30 to September 5.
The championship is organized by the Chinese Administration of Sports for Persons with Disabilities under the umbrella of the International Badminton Federation.
The participation marks the first international badminton appearance for the Oman Paralympic Committee and its athletes. The Omani delegation is headed by Rahma Al-Hajri and includes coach Wasim Al-Khatib and players Younis Al-Toubi and Ashraf Al-Khasibi.
As part of the tournament, the Omani players will undergo official sports classification and technical assessment in accordance with international Paralympic badminton regulations. The procedures will prepare them for entry into the international classification system and participation in officially sanctioned competitions.
The championship features men’s and women’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles events, with matches played in a best-of-three format, with each set contested to 21 points.
The participation forms part of the Omani Paralympic Committee’s plans, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, to expand opportunities for athletes with disabilities, develop new sporting disciplines and provide Omani athletes with international competition experience.
The tournament also offers the athletes an opportunity to gain exposure to international standards and strengthen their experience ahead of future Paralympic badminton competitions.
