Oman Intensifies Commercial and Industrial Inspection Efforts in First Half of 2026

Muscat:  The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion has intensified its field inspection and monitoring efforts during the first half of 2026 to ensure commercial and industrial establishments comply with laws, regulations and approved standards across the Sultanate of Oman.

The inspection efforts included field visits to verify product quality, monitor compliance and take legal action against violating establishments, contributing to consumer protection and supporting a stable and transparent investment environment.

Hilal bin Mohsen Al-Amri, Director of the Inspection Department at the Ministry, said the results and performance indicators for the first half of 2026 reflect extensive field efforts and continuous monitoring by inspection teams across the governorates.

He noted that the Ministry remains committed to strengthening institutional oversight, protecting consumer rights and intellectual property, and ensuring that products and services available in the markets comply with approved standards.

During the period, 36 inspection visits were conducted to enforce the Intellectual Property Rights Law at restaurants, cafes and retail outlets. 32 written warnings were issued to establishments found to have imitated or infringed trademarks in the food, personal care and household cleaning sectors, while four written warnings were issued to restaurants and cafes. Awareness campaigns were also conducted to combat counterfeit products.

In the fuel sector, 182 inspection visits were carried out in Muscat Governorate to verify compliance with regulations governing the establishment and operation of fuel stations. The Ministry also handled 18 reports received through the “Tajawob” platform.

Regarding mandatory electronic payment services at commercial centres and shops, 198 field reports were handled, resulting in 17 violations and 12 written warnings.

In industrial inspection and national quality support, inspection teams conducted 72 field visits to industrial establishments to verify that actual activities corresponded with registered industrial licences. Seven establishments holding national product identity licences were also inspected to verify local added-value ratios in accordance with Ministerial Decision No. 62/2022.

The Ministry also conducted field visits to 65 industrial establishments in Muscat Governorate to assess their actual need for expatriate manpower and ensure that manpower requests corresponded with the scale of operations. Inspections were also carried out at liquefied cooking gas depots to verify compliance with approved land areas and uses under Ministerial Decision No. 185/2024.

In the area of specifications, standards and laboratory testing, inspectors, in cooperation with the National Center for Measurement and Calibration, verified and calibrated 172 commercial weighing scales, all of which were found to be compliant.

Product inspections also covered 13,671 samples to verify the presence of the Gulf Conformity Mark and the government stamp for precious metals. The inspections resulted in 168 violations involving non-conforming goods.

Al-Amri affirmed that the results achieved during the first half of the year reflect the Ministry’s continued commitment to maintaining an active field presence and protecting the rights of consumers and investors.

He added that continued investment in inspection and monitoring tools, together with greater coordination among relevant government entities, contributes to raising compliance levels, reducing the circulation of non-conforming goods and supporting the safety and stability of Omani markets and the competitiveness of the investment and commercial environment.
