Oman to Host First Middle East Ironman 70.3 Championship of 2027 Season

Nice: The Sultanate of Oman will host the Middle East Ironman 70.3 Championship in Muscat in February 2027, marking the first Middle East event of the new championship season and bringing together leading international endurance athletes.

The announcement was made during the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism’s participation in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in the French city of Nice. The Omani delegation attending the championship is headed by Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said Al Busaidi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism.

During the event, Al Busaidi held meetings with a number of senior executives of the Ironman Group and international partners. The Omani delegation also reviewed the operational, logistical and media systems used in organising the championship, supporting Oman’s preparations to host future international sporting events.

The selection of Muscat to launch the new global season represents a significant milestone in Oman’s sports tourism development and reflects international confidence in the Sultanate’s organisational capabilities, infrastructure and experience in hosting major sporting events.

It also highlights Oman’s diverse natural landscapes and modern urban environments, which provide a setting for international endurance competitions.

The Ironman series is among the world’s leading professional endurance racing competitions. The 2027 season will feature 18 main events across the Ironman and Ironman 70.3 series in various destinations worldwide.

Professional athletes compete throughout the season to accumulate points based on their race results, improve their overall standings and compete for total prize money of $2 million at the end of the season.

On the sidelines of the Nice championship, the “Explore Oman” pavilion showcased the Sultanate’s natural, cultural and heritage attractions, along with adventure experiences and tourism activities available across Oman’s governorates.

The pavilion also highlighted international races hosted by Oman and tourism packages designed for athletes and their families, promoting sporting events as part of an integrated tourism experience spanning multiple destinations across the Sultanate.
