Oman’s “Trade Dialogues” to Explore Economic Value of Growing Re-Exports

Muscat: The “Trade Dialogues” session, organised by the Oman Business Forum and the Partnership with the Private Sector Office at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, will discuss next Tuesday ways to maximise the economic benefits of growth in Oman’s re-export activity.

The session, to be held at the Civil Aviation Authority, will focus on strengthening the role of logistics and procurement services and developing local suppliers to transform increased trade activity into sustainable economic opportunities and greater local added value.

Held under the theme “Value Chain Interaction – Sustainable Growth and Local Opportunities,” the session will examine ways to leverage Oman’s strategic location, infrastructure and logistics capabilities to strengthen its position as a regional hub for trade and distribution.

Discussions will focus on moving beyond the movement of goods through ports and logistics corridors towards maximising the economic value generated within Oman by increasing opportunities for local companies, awarding more contracts to Omani institutions, developing supplier capabilities and strengthening their links with domestic and international value chains.

The session will also examine the role of procurement in increasing local added value and the importance of enabling Omani companies to undertake more specialised technical activities.

It will address the need to invest in supplier capabilities based on future demand and build competitive track records that qualify Omani institutions to work with major companies and large-scale projects.

Another focus will be compliance with rules of origin, production requirements and quality standards, particularly for small and medium enterprises. Meeting these requirements is increasingly important for accessing contracts and international markets, alongside competitiveness in price and quality.

Badriya bint Mohammed Al Amri, Communications Specialist at the Oman Business Forum and Partnership with the Private Sector Office, said Oman has invested in developing an integrated network of links and trade corridors that enables companies to access the Gulf, Indian Ocean and global markets.

She said the next stage is to increase the benefits that Omani institutions derive from the business opportunities generated by this system and establish sustainable commercial relationships that strengthen their participation in value chains.

Al Amri noted that the session comes amid significant growth in Oman’s re-export activity. According to National Centre for Statistics and Information data, the value of re-exports reached approximately RO 1.021 billion by the end of May 2026, representing an increase of 64% compared with the same period last year.

Omani non-oil exports also increased by 1.5% to approximately RO 2.739 billion during the same period.

The “Trade Dialogues” series is organised throughout the year by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion through the Oman Business Forum and Partnership with the Private Sector Office.

The platform brings together government officials, experts, private-sector representatives and business leaders to discuss key issues related to the business environment, economy, trade, industry and investment, and to examine challenges, opportunities and future trends.

The initiative aims to strengthen government-private sector communication and partnership, support the competitiveness of Oman’s national economy and contribute to the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
