Oman Triathlon Championship 2026 Kicks Off at Al Azaiba Beach

Muscat:  The first round of the Oman Triathlon Championship 2026 kicked off today at Al Azaiba Beach in the Wilayat of Bausher, with the participation of more than 110 male and female athletes from Oman, Arab countries and foreign communities residing in the Sultanate.

The championship is organized by the Oman Triathlon Committee, affiliated with the Oman Olympic Committee, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and the Office of the Wali of Bausher.

Lieutenant Colonel Hood bin Sultan Al Nabhani, Chairman of the Oman Modern Triathlon Committee, said that triathlon combines three sports — swimming, cycling and running — and has gained growing popularity internationally.

He explained that the Oman Triathlon Championship 2026 comprises five rounds held at different locations across the Sultanate. The second round will take place in Al Musannah, South Al Batinah Governorate, on September 11, followed by the third round at Al Sifah Beach in the Wilayat of Muscat on November 27.

The fourth round will return to Al Azaiba Beach on December 19, while the championship will conclude with its fifth and final round in the Wilayat of Muttrah on January 8, 2027.

The season features five triathlon events, comprising two sprint-distance races and three Olympic-distance races, with competitions open to male and female athletes across various categories.

Al Nabhani said the championship aims to provide athletes with regular competitive opportunities to enhance their technical and physical capabilities, while promoting triathlon and attracting more Omani talent to the sport.

He added that the championship will also serve as a platform for identifying and developing promising young athletes by monitoring their performances throughout the different rounds and supporting the selection of outstanding competitors for national-team preparation programmes.

A dedicated race for children and young athletes is also included, aimed at encouraging participation from an early age. The junior event features a 300-metre swim followed by a one-kilometre run.

At the conclusion of the first round, winners were honored in the different categories.

In the men’s category, Chris from the United Kingdom took first place, followed by Saeed bin Salem Al Maamari in second and Abdullah bin Hilal Al Kulaibi in third.

In the women’s category, Angie Zacca of the United Kingdom secured first place, with Marianne of the United Kingdom finishing second and Arlene of France third.

In the 7–14 age category, Saeed bin Ahmed Al Ghailani claimed first place, followed by Khalid bin Abdul Rahman Al Ghailani in second and Rashid bin Saeed Al Ghailani in third.
