Shooting in Northern Switzerland Leaves One Dead and Five Injured

Bern: At least one person was killed and five others injured today in a shooting incident in northern Switzerland, with some of the wounded reported to be in critical condition.

Police in the canton of Aargau said that a large-scale operation was underway following the incident and appealed to members of the public to provide any video footage or photographs that could assist the investigation.

According to Swiss newspaper Blick, the shooting occurred during an artistic event.

Authorities said large areas of the city of Aarau had been cordoned off, while additional security personnel were deployed around the city as a precautionary measure.

Switzerland has one of the highest rates of firearm ownership in Europe, although incidents involving shootings and firearms-related violence remain relatively uncommon. Swiss authorities introduced stricter gun-control regulations in 2019.
