    Madrid:  Real Madrid face the prospect of ending the 2025–2026 season without silverware following a 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

    The result leaves the Spanish side with a difficult task ahead of the return leg in Germany, as Bayern Munich strengthened their position as favourites to progress.

    The setback comes amid a challenging period for Real Madrid, whose LaLiga title hopes have also weakened after recent results left them trailing the leaders by seven points.

    The team’s recent performances have raised concerns about consistency, particularly following a defeat to Mallorca and an earlier Copa del Rey exit at the hands of Albacete in the second round.

    Real Madrid last concluded a season without major titles in 2020–2021, when they finished runners-up in LaLiga and exited the UEFA Champions League at the semi-final stage.

    This season has witnessed managerial changes, with Álvaro Arbeloa taking charge following the departure of Xabi Alonso. However, results have yet to reflect a significant turnaround.

    Attention has also turned to key players, including Kylian Mbappe, as expectations remain high for the club to compete at the top European level.
