Oman to Establish 7 New Factories for Electrical Transformer Components
Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, represented by “Invest in Oman”, is advancing efforts to localise industrial production by linking investment opportunities to the actual needs of economic sectors, with investments of about RO 15 million allocated to localise the manufacturing of electrical transformer components.
The projects are the result of cooperation between “Invest in Oman”, Voltamp Energy and a number of relevant entities, aimed at identifying industrial needs that can be localised, presenting them as investment opportunities to the private sector and connecting them with investors to establish local production capacities that support national supply chains.
The initiative includes 10 investment agreements to manufacture key electrical transformer components in Khazaen, Madayn and the Sohar Free Zone.
The agreements involve the establishment of seven new factories and the addition of production lines at existing factories, expanding Oman’s local manufacturing base, increasing local added value and reducing reliance on imports.
The agreements were signed on Aug. 12, 2026, as part of the “Localize It… From Vision to Partnerships” initiative launched by Voltamp Energy in cooperation with the Public Services Regulatory Authority. The investment opportunities were made available to investors and private-sector companies through “Invest in Oman”.
The opportunities are based on identified industrial requirements at Voltamp Energy and are supported by pre-purchase agreements, providing clear demand for the targeted products and creating a basis for private-sector investment and industrial partnerships.
The projects will manufacture 10 key electrical transformer components, with eight to be produced at the new factories and two through additional production lines at two existing factories.
The planned projects will occupy approximately 34,000 square metres, with commercial production expected to begin during 2027 and 2028.
The agreements comprise four agreements with Omani small and medium enterprises and six with local and international companies, expanding the participation of Omani businesses in energy-sector value chains and strengthening the local supplier base.
“Invest in Oman” works to move investment opportunities from promotion and attraction to localisation and implementation by identifying opportunities in priority sectors, connecting investors with project owners and relevant entities and following up on their progress until they become operational investment projects.
Lamia bint Sultan Al Habsi, Assistant Director General of the Directorate General for Investment Promotion at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, said linking investment opportunities to actual industrial needs represents an important step in improving the attractiveness of industrial investment in Oman.
She explained that the approach provides the private sector with opportunities to establish partnerships based on clear market demand while increasing local content and generating added value for the national economy.
Al Habsi added that “Invest in Oman” seeks to connect quality investment opportunities with priority sectors and support their transformation into sustainable projects, while developing national supply chains and expanding local production capabilities.
She noted that connecting opportunities to actual industrial demand begins with identifying a specific industrial requirement, converting it into a structured investment opportunity, linking it with investors and establishing the partnerships needed to develop factories and production lines in Oman.
Mohammed Ajmal Pasha, CEO of Voltamp Energy Group, said the agreements reflect the company’s efforts to build a more integrated industrial system in Oman and convert part of its supply-chain requirements into local manufacturing capabilities.
He added that reaching the implementation stage was supported by cooperation among several institutions, including “Invest in Oman”, the Oman Investment Authority, Oman Electricity Transmission Company, Nama Group, Hydrom, the Public Services Regulatory Authority, Madayn and other relevant entities.
The projects are expected to support technology and knowledge transfer, development of national industrial and technical capabilities, job creation, expansion of local supply chains and the supplier base, and reduced dependence on imported electrical transformer components.
They are also expected to increase local added value and contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of Oman’s manufacturing and energy sectors.
