Salalah Club to Represent Oman at Sheikha Fatima Women’s Basketball Championship

Salalah Club Selected to Represent Oman in UAE Women’s Basketball Tournament

Muscat (ONA): The Omani Women’s Basketball Association is set to take part in the Sheikha Fatima Academy for Women’s Sports Championship, hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 27 to 31 August.

The women’s basketball team of Salalah Club will represent the Sultanate of Oman in this tournament. The participation aims at fostering competitive engagement with international teams.

Hiba Said Al Naabi, Head of the Women’s Committee at the Omani Basketball Association, stated that Salalah Club’s participation aligns with the Association’s strategic commitment to supporting and advancing women’s basketball.

She noted that the initiative provides clubs and players with valuable opportunities to gain competitive experience abroad, which contributes to elevating technical standards and enhancing players’ expertise through exposure to teams from outside Oman.

She added that Salalah Club was selected to represent the Sultanate of Oman in recognition of its dedicated efforts to develop women’s basketball and its commitment to building a team capable of competing at regional events.

The Association is equally focused on broadening the base of women’s participation, ensuring that external engagements are not confined to specific teams or players, but rather extended to clubs across various governorates. This approach is designed to enable the development of women’s teams nationwide and incentivize greater investment in women’s basketball at the club level.
