2026 Oman International Rally Kicks Off in Sohar

Over 20 Competitors Take Part in Oman International Rally

Sohar:  The activities of the 2026 Oman International Rally officially kicked off today in the Wilayat of Sohar, North Al Batinah Governorate, for the second consecutive year, with an official press conference attended by leading participating drivers and team managers.

During the press conference, participants discussed their readiness for the competition and outlined the routes of this year’s rally.

The opening day also featured a public demonstration stage held near the Sohar Entertainment Centre, where drivers showcased their racing skills in an exciting display that allowed spectators to experience the thrill of rally driving ahead of the commencement of the competitive long stages.

The rally is organised by the Oman Automobile Association in conjunction with the Sohar Entertainment Festival, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, the Office of the Governor of North Al Batinah, and Toyota Oman, the official sponsor of the rally.

This year’s edition has attracted wide participation, with more than 20 competitors representing several countries.

Attention is focused on Qatari driver Nasser Al Attiyah, the 20-time Middle East champion, who is competing alongside his Spanish navigator, Carrera Caneda, in a Skoda Fabia. Also drawing attention is Omani champion Abdullah Al Rawahi, competing with his Jordanian navigator Atta Al Hamoud, marking his strong return to competition following recovery from injury.

The competitive long stages of the rally will begin tomorrow, Friday, starting with the Al Rasisa stage, covering a distance of 15 kilometres at 9:13 a.m., followed by the Al Rassa stage (19 kilometres) and the Al Awaina stage (14 kilometres), before the stages are repeated after the service interval.

The rally will conclude on Saturday with the final stages in the Al Aqiq, Yanbu, and Rahab areas, followed by the official prize-giving ceremony at the Sohar Entertainment Centre.
