Muscat, 03 October 2026: Sohar International has been honoured with the Alam Al Iktisaad Excellence Award for Banking Leadership and Performance at the Alam Al Iktisaad Awards 2026, recognising the Bank’s continued progress in strengthening its performance, capabilities and contribution to Oman’s evolving financial and economic landscape. The ceremony was held under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Dr Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidi, Advisor at the Diwan of Royal Court. The recognition comes as Sohar International continues to advance a growth strategy focused not simply on scale, but on building the capabilities required of a modern, competitive and increasingly connected Omani financial institution. Through disciplined growth, continued investment in technology and talent, and the expansion of its banking and advisory capabilities, the Bank is strengthening its ability to serve the changing ambitions of individuals, businesses and institutions while contributing to Oman’s broader economic transformation.
Commenting on the recognition, Abdulwahid Mohamed Al Murshidi, Chief Executive Officer of Sohar International, said: “The role of banking is evolving alongside Oman’s economy. As new industries emerge, businesses expand into new markets and investment flows become increasingly interconnected, financial institutions must have the capabilities to enable that ambition. At Sohar International, we are building an Omani financial institution that can respond to this opportunity — combining strong performance with deeper capabilities, greater connectivity and a long-term commitment to the country we serve. This recognition reflects the progress we are making, but our focus remains firmly on what comes next: creating greater value for our customers and shareholders, supporting the growth of Omani enterprise, and contributing to a more competitive and globally connected economy.”
Central to this direction is Sohar International’s continued investment in the capabilities that will shape the future of banking. By combining deep understanding of the Omani market with digitalisation, technology and financial innovation, the Bank continues to enhance customer experience and develop solutions that respond to increasingly sophisticated financial needs.
At the same time, the continued development of its corporate, commercial, investment banking and wealth management capabilities is enabling Sohar International to support customers across different stages of growth — from accessing capital and managing financial needs to pursuing investment opportunities and expanding into new markets. Together with its growing international connectivity, these capabilities strengthen the Bank’s role in connecting Omani businesses, investors and institutions with opportunities both within the Sultanate and internationally.
The Alam Al Iktisaad Excellence Award for Banking Leadership and Performance further reflects Sohar International’s institutional progress and the continued evolution of its role within Oman’s financial sector. Looking ahead, the Bank remains focused on strengthening its capabilities, anticipating emerging opportunities and creating sustainable long-term value while supporting the ambitions of its customers and the Sultanate of Oman.
