    • UNICEF: 23 Children Killed as Fighting Escalates in Sudan’s North Kordofan

    New York: At least 23 children have been killed and 25 others injured in North Kordofan, western Sudan, since fighting intensified around El Obeid over the past two months, according to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

    UNICEF said that four children were recently killed in the Barbar area south of El Obeid, bringing the total number of children killed or injured in the area during the current month to at least eight.

    In a statement, the agency said the continued conflict is exposing children and their families to grave danger, stressing that every casualty represents a child whose life has been cut short and a family whose future has been permanently affected.

    UNICEF emphasized that children continue to bear the consequences of the conflict and called for the protection of their safety, rights, and access to essential services.

    The agency added that at least 330 children have been killed or injured across Sudan during the first six months of 2026, warning that ongoing violence, repeated displacement, and the destruction of civilian infrastructure continue to threaten the lives, safety, and future of children.
