US House Approves Short-Term Funding Bill to Prevent Government Shutdown

Washington: The US House of Representatives has approved a short-term funding measure aimed at preventing a partial government shutdown by extending funding for federal agencies until 4 December 2026.

The temporary spending bill now moves to the US Senate, where Republican leaders are considering their own short-term funding proposal as negotiations continue with Democratic lawmakers.

If Congress fails to approve a funding measure, financing for most federal government agencies and programmes will expire at midnight on 30 September, marking the end of the current fiscal year.

The legislation is intended to provide additional time for lawmakers to negotiate a longer-term federal budget while avoiding a disruption to government operations ahead of the November midterm elections.
