US Forces Strike Iranian Missile Platforms on Larak Island

Washington: A US official confirmed that American forces struck two Iranian missile launch platforms on Larak Island on Sunday, marking the first known US military strikes against Iran since late July of last year.

Larak Island, located near the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas, overlooks key maritime routes at the entrance to the Gulf, giving it strategic importance amid heightened tensions over regional maritime security and global energy supplies.

Iranian state media reported that Tehran responded by launching attacks on two US military bases in the region.

The renewed hostilities follow weeks of heightened pressure by the administration of US President Donald Trump on Tehran and its commercial partners through extensive economic sanctions.

The administration had previously focused on financial and economic measures as a means of pressuring Iran, seeking to avoid a direct military escalation.
