Gold and Silver Prices Surge to Record Highs Amid Rising Geopolitical Tensions
Singapore: Gold and silver prices surged to record highs today as investors flocked to safe-haven assets amid escalating geopolitical tensions, following remarks by US President Donald Trump threatening to impose additional tariffs on European countries over issues related to Greenland.
Spot gold rose by 1.6 percent to $4,670.01 per ounce, after reaching an all-time high of $4,689.39 earlier in the session. US gold futures for February delivery climbed 1.8 percent to $4,677 per ounce.
Silver prices also recorded strong gains, with spot silver advancing 4.4 percent to $93.85 per ounce, after touching a record high of $94.08.
In other precious metals, spot platinum increased by 1.9 percent to $2,373.08 per ounce, while palladium rose 0.5 percent to $1,809 per ounce.
Market analysts attributed the surge to heightened uncertainty in global markets, prompting investors to seek refuge in precious metals as traditional safe-haven assets.
