European Stocks Slide Amid US Tariff Threats Linked to Greenland

Brussels: European stock markets recorded a sharp decline today after the United States threatened to impose additional tariffs unless it is allowed to purchase Greenland, heightening geopolitical and trade-related concerns.

The pan-European STOXX 600 index fell by 1.3 percent, marking a gloomy start to a week dominated by corporate earnings announcements and the World Economic Forum in Davos. The forum is expected to be closely monitored for signals related to tariff policies and the global geopolitical outlook.

Major European indices also closed lower. France’s CAC 40 dropped 1.8 percent, Germany’s DAX declined 1.4 percent, while Britain’s FTSE 100 slipped 0.4 percent.

Market sentiment was negatively affected by growing uncertainty surrounding trade relations and the potential economic impact of escalating geopolitical tensions.
