The pan-European STOXX 600 index remained nearly unchanged at 574.98 points, with the defense sector recording a decline of 0.8 percent.
Market attention is focused on the consumer price index (CPI) and the harmonized index of consumer prices in Germany, due later today, to assess the economic impact on Europe’s largest economy.

Meanwhile, shares of Rio Tinto rose by about 5 percent after the firm resumed operations at three of its four terminals at an iron ore port in Western Australia following Tropical Cyclone Narelle. The development contributed to a 0.2 percent increase in the UK’s FTSE index.
