Tokyo Stock Market Rallies on Strong AI Sector Gains
Tokyo: Tokyo stocks closed higher today, with the benchmark Nikkei index ending above the 65,000-point level for the first time.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose by 2.87 percent from Friday’s close to finish at 65,158.19 points, after touching an intraday record high of 65,408.87 points.
The index recorded an 8.95 percent gain over the past three trading sessions, marking its strongest three-day advance in more than six years.
Meanwhile, the broader Topix index climbed by 1.29 percent to close at a record high of 3,942.57 points.
A total of 141 stocks advanced on the Nikkei index against 83 decliners.
Shares linked to the artificial intelligence sector were among the top gainers. Fujikura, a manufacturer of cables and optical fibers, and chipmaker Kioxia both rose by more than 14 percent.
On the losing side, Archion shares fell by 8.4 percent, recording the largest decline, followed by Pan Pacific International, which dropped 4.9 percent, and Aeon, which declined 4.8 percent.
