European Airport Passenger Traffic Declines for First Time Since Pandemic Recovery

Brussels: Airports Council International Europe (ACI Europe) announced today that passenger traffic at airports across the continent declined in April for the first time since the aviation sector began recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the association’s traffic report for April 2026, passenger traffic across the European airport network fell by 0.7 percent compared to the same month last year.

ACI Europe stated that the decrease was linked to disruptions affecting air travel and marked the first year-on-year decline in passenger traffic since the European aviation sector began its recovery in April 2021.

The Brussels-based association noted that the latest figures represent a pause in the growth trend that had continued over the past five years following the pandemic recovery period.
