Conditions Ripe for Political Solution in Yemen: GCC Secretary General

Riyadh: Jasem Mohamed Al Budaiwi, GCC Secretary General called on Yemenis to unite and uphold Yemen’s supreme interest, so that the country may enjoy peace, security and stability.

“On the occasion of the one-year anniversary of intra-Yemeni consultations, the current conditions are conducive to engaging in peace talks and reaching a political solution in line with the GCC Initiative, the Comprehensive Dialogue Conference and Security Council Resolution 2016,” he observed.

Al Budaiwi commended the outcome of consultations hosted by the GCC between 29 March and 7 April 2022, which saw the participation of Yemeni leaders, members of the House of Representatives, the Shura Council and representatives of political forces and civil society institutions.

At that juncture, the conferees devised important mechanisms to strengthen unity, establish channels of communication, consultation and reconciliation, back an economic decision to alleviate the suffering of Yemenis and pave the way for development and rebuilding, he explained.

Al Budaiwi said that the GCC is confident that the Yemenis, known for wisdom and faith, are capable of accomplishing the goals for which the intra-Yemeni consultations were held.
