STOXX 600 Drops 0.9% on Geopolitical and Market Pressures

London: The pan-European STOXX 600 Index fell to its lowest level in two weeks today, weighed down by escalating tensions in the Middle East and a broad sell-off in technology stocks linked to artificial intelligence.

The index declined by 0.9 percent to 616.04 points, with all major European stock market indices closing in negative territory.

Oil prices rose by more than 4 percent after Israel and Iran exchanged attacks earlier this week, raising concerns about regional stability and affecting market sentiment.

Airline stocks, which are particularly sensitive to higher fuel costs, recorded notable losses, while the technology sector fell by 2.1 percent, ranking among the weakest-performing sectors.

Meanwhile, stronger-than-expected US employment data reinforced expectations that the US Federal Reserve may maintain a restrictive monetary policy stance for a longer period. Market participants are currently pricing in the possibility of an interest rate increase in December.

Investor attention is also focused on the European Central Bank’s monetary policy meeting scheduled for Thursday, with markets anticipating a 25-basis-point interest rate increase.
