Gold Prices Slip on Stronger Dollar and Higher Yields

Singapore:  Gold prices declined today as rising US Treasury yields and a stronger US dollar weighed on the market, despite optimism surrounding a potential peace agreement between the United States and Iran.

Spot gold fell 0.3 percent to $4,467.59 per ounce, while US gold futures for June delivery declined 0.9 percent to $4,471.10 per ounce.

The US dollar remained near a six-week high, while yields on 10-year US Treasury bonds held at their strongest levels in more than a year, increasing the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets such as gold.

Among other precious metals, spot silver dropped 0.8 percent to $73.22 per ounce, platinum declined 0.5 percent to $1,912.67 per ounce, while palladium edged up 0.2 percent to $1,356.32 per ounce.
