Tokyo: Japanese stock indices rose today following a drop in crude oil prices amid signs of a ceasefire in the Middle East, easing concerns about a potential economic slowdown.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index increased by 4.67 percent to 55,923.27 points, while the broader Topix index gained 3 percent to reach 3,763.51 points.
A total of 212 stocks advanced on the Nikkei index, compared to 10 that declined. Furukawa Electric recorded the highest gain, rising by 12.4 percent, followed by Advantest Corp., which climbed by 9.3 percent.
