Tokyo:  Japan’s Nikkei index extended its gains for a third consecutive session today, supported by advances in artificial intelligence (AI)-related and semiconductor stocks, although investor caution pared most of the market’s early gains.

Semiconductor-related shares led the gains, with SUMCO Corp. surging 17.37 percent to its highest closing level since October 2007. Taiyo Yuden Co. climbed 12.43 percent to a record closing high, while SCREEN Holdings Co. advanced 9.46 percent to an all-time closing high.
