Riyadh: In implementation of the Royal directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, a symposium and exhibition on the history of Omani camels began in Riyadh today.
The symposium, held at the premises of Culture Palace in the diplomatic quarter in Riyadh, aims to introduce the participants and visitors to Omani camels, their history, origins and their role in economic, social and cultural life.
The event also seeks to highlight the activities of the Royal Camel Corps and its role in preserving thoroughbred Omani camel breeds. It supports the ongoing cooperation between Oman and Saudi Arabia with regard to camels. It covers various areas of relevance to camels, including investment opportunities in camel-based economies, scholarly and practical aspects of camels.
The symposium targets those interested in camels: universities, educational and research institutions, governmental and private institutions and individuals interested in arts that evolve around the theme of camels.
The symposium includes a number of working papers presented by researchers and specialists in the field of camels
The symposium includes an exhibition focusing on four main themes: the first one features the history of Omani camels; the theme reviews the activities and events of the Royal Camel Corps and the services it renders to the community; the third theme highlights the scientific contributions of the Directorate General of Veterinary Services, Royal Court Affairs, in the field of camel health.
The fourth corner is dedicated to camel-related heritage arts.
A photography and modern arts exhibition is organized as part of the event by Oman Society for Fine Arts and its works which focus on camels.
The event was held under the auspices of Sheikh Fahd Falah Hathlin, Founder and President of the International Camel Organization. It was also attended by HH Sayyid Faisal Turki Al Said, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), and Humaid Ali Al Zar’ee, Director General of the Royal Camel Corps. – ONA
